Configure FMEA variants

Plan your FMEA variant implementation

Before configuring how FMEA variants are created, careful planning ensures alignment with your organization's quality management processes and team requirements.

To implement FMEA variants in Teamcenter, you need to make decisions about:

  • Inheritance strategy: Determine which elements from your master FMEAs should be inherited by variants. For example, in an automotive air filter FMEA, you might want all variants to inherit standard failure modes like restricted airflow or improper sealing, while allowing detection methods to vary by product line.

  • Attribute handling: Decide how you want to manage the different types of attributes. You will need to identify which attributes should be copied and which should be reset for each variant.

  • Change management: Plan how you want to manage the relationship between FMEA master and variant when changes occur. Consider how you will track differences and maintain alignment between masters and variants over time.

These decisions will guide your configuration of the

FMEACreateVariantRules.xml

and

CompareFMEAStructureMVRules.xml

files, which control how variants are created, compared, and aligned.
